We’re not fishy on our fish policy
We’re not fishy on our fish policy (or any animal welfare practice either)
At BaxterStorey, we’re committed to sustainable practice across our operation, from fish to eggs, electricity to water, paper to plastic, we’re making sure that our business is as clean, green, and environmentally respectful as it possibly can be.
So when, in early June, many of our catering industry peers announced that their operations would be stopping the use endangered Blue Fin Tuna, we already had the matter wrapped up – hook, line and canned!
We’ve always been committed to using food from sustainable, identifiable sources, and earlier in the year, when it became clear to us that BlueFin Tuna was becoming an endangered species we immediately stopped any supply into BaxterStorey. The only Tuna used in our kitchens are the Yellow Fin or SkipJack species, both approved by the Marine Conservation Society.
For over 2 years we have insisted that no fish listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature list is supplied into our business and all fish is sourced and in accordance with the MCS guidelines.
It’s not only with fish are we are picky about our choices. Where livestock is concerned, we insist on good animal husbandry practices. We only source meat from suppliers where animals are reared in the most humane fashion as practicable and we can identify the farm where each piece of meat we use was reared. All of our Eggs are British Lion accredited and every single pint of liquid milk we use across our 500 sites is certified by Red Tractor.
