Two BaxterStorey Chefs make are Roux Scholarship finalists

The incredible skill shown by two of our most senior chefs at BaxterStorey have been recongised at the UK’s leading culinary competition, the Roux Scholarship, where chefs Kenneth Culhane and Kevin Sutherland were awarded places in the finals of this most hotly contested competition.

Kenneth and Kevin are chefs at the fine dining facility, Level 31 at Barclays in Canary Wharf. They beat off stiff competition from 12 other competitors to secure their places at the final which will be held on 28 March at Westminster Kingsway College.

On the day, both chefs will have to deliver the most outstanding performances in front of world renowned chefs from the Roux family, Gary Rhodes, Heston Blumenthal and James Martin at Westminster Kingsway College. Unlike in the previous round where the ingredients had previously been known to the competitors, Kevin and Kenneth will not find out until 45 minutes before they begin to prepare the food, which ingredients they will be required to use. They will then have 2 hours in which to prepare and present a main dish in a style of their choice.

The scene is one that will be familiar to Kevin Sutherland who also made it to the final last year.

Wishing the two chefs luck in their upcoming challenge, William Baxter, Deputy CEO, BaxterStorey, said: “BaxterStorey is home to some of the UK’s leading culinary talent and we’re extremely proud of Kenneth and Kevin’s achievements and that of our entire brigade deliver. Kevin and Kenneth’s success in this, the most highly regarded of culinary competitions, is absolute evidence that  the food and service management sector enables and supports our leading chefs to reach the highest pinnacles of their career.”

BaxterStorey is the only food and service management company represented in the 2010 finals and it is the only company to have two chefs to reach the finals in the history of the Roux Scholarship.
