Top Hospitality Award For Baxtersmith MD
Mike Smith, managing director of Amersham-based independent business caterer BaxterSmith, received the foodservice industry's top honour at a star-studded gala ceremony on 6 July at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.
He scooped the coveted Caterer & Hotelkeeper magazine's "Food Service Caterer of the Year Award", for his outstanding contribution to the hospitality industry.
Mike (43), lives in Tring with his wife Angela and two daughters. He has spent his entire career in the food service sector, rising from a unit manager to managing director of two catering companies. In May 2000 he co-founded BaxterSmith with William Baxter and the business now expects to hit a target of £29m for the current financial year. It has 800 employees and 76 contracts across the UK.
Much of the consistent quality of BaxterSmith's delivery is down to the way Mike Smith inspires and involves his staff. His considerable sales skills helped the company to win prestigious contracts with Selfridges and Marks & Spencer.
Forbes Mutch, Group Editor of Caterer & Hotelkeeper, comments: "This 21st year's event has been another huge success. Mike Smith is one of the key individuals that have made unparalleled contributions to the British hospitality industry, and we hope that his talent and dedication will inspire generations to come."
