Peers within the Foodservice Industry vote BaxterStorey 7th
The Food Service Director magazine, a publication produced by Dewberry Boys, wrote to 5000 senior directors and managers in the foodservice industry in UK asking them to choose their five favourite companies in the industry and rank them in order of preference. There were no defined criteria but the following possibilities were offered:-
Effectiveness of the Chief Executive
Corporate Image
Past Performance
Innovation
Staff retention and training
Environmental awareness
Reputation
Marketing effectiveness
Brand Profile
Future Prospects
Profitability
It is an indication of where a company stands in the opinion of its peers. The survey is very subjective, not scientific, and a move of a few places up or down is unlikely to be statistically significant but big rises should bring a smile to those involved and big falls might cause the twitch of an eyebrow or two.
The top 10 are:
1 Pret a Manger
2 Compass Group
3 Loch Fyne Restaurants
4 Carluccios
5 Caffe Nero
6 Conran Restaurants
7 BAXTERSTOREY
8 Hotel du Vin
9 La Tasca Restaurants
10 Mitchells and Butler
Any organisation appearing in a list of the top 50 companies out of the thousands in the industry can be reassured that their peers regard them as a quality business.
SCORE 7 - BAXTERSTOREY
Last year, BaxterSmith was 5 and Wilson Storey Halliday was 41
"BaxterStorey was formed in late 2004 as a result of the merger of BaxterSmith and Wilson Storey Halliday to form an independent medium sized company with a turnover of around £75 million that could challenge the major contract caterers. As at September 2005 it had 255 sites and 2825 staff and had just announced that it had gained the GlaxoSmithKline staff contract from Compass and Avenance.
On a pro-forma basis, the figures for the combined group for the year ended 2003 would show £72m of sales being 57% up on 2002 while net assets are very strong with a 71% year on year growth."
