BaxterStorey’s place as the UK’s leading independent food service company was further entrenched this week when the company won two awards at the Catey Awards, the catering industry’s Oscar ceremony.

The only finalist to scoop more than one award on the night (7 July 2009), BaxterStorey’s Managing Director, Noel Mahony, was named the Food Service Caterer of the Year and the company’s environmental and sustainable performance was rewarded with the Sustainable Business Award, the first ever food service company to receive the title.Mike Hanson Catey

This follows hot on the heels of further recognition of BaxterStorey’s commitment to responsible performance, when last week the company was awarded a Major Commendation at the Business Commitment to the Environment (BCE) Environmental Leadership Awards, the longest running, and one of the most prestigious, environmental award schemes in the UK.

BaxterStorey’s embracing of the entire environmental agenda was heralded by one of the judges, Matthew Rowland-Jones, Business Development Manager at Envirowise, as the “standard for major food service companies to follow”.  Since 2007, its broad portfolio of activity has seen BaxterStorey recycle more than 300 tonnes of food waste, acquire 95% of all fresh ingredients from British sources, reduce carbon emissions by almost 19% and general waste by over 17% and launch a charitable foundation.

The evening’s second win, the Food Service Caterer Award, went to Managing DiNoel Mahonyrector, Noel Mahony.  This award is presided over by a panel of peers from within the industry with one judge stating that Noel “embodied hospitality” and previous winner and judge this year, Kate Martin, Managing Director, Brookwood Partnership, commenting that Noel has “an admired reputation for building sales and retaining business”.

Noel joins 4 other members of the 9 strong BaxterStorey board who have previously been recognised with the Food Service Catey. With over 50% of its board now recognised by the industry’s leading award ceremony, BaxterStorey unquestionably houses the most admired and successful senior management team in today’s food service industry.

Alastair Storey, CEO, BaxterStorey, attended the awards and his pride at the company’s achievements was evident. “It’s the people in our business that make BaxterStorey such a success.  Throughout BaxterStorey, the talent and dedication of our teams is simply remarkable and it’s wonderful to have Noel’s and our Head of Sustainability, Mike Hanson’s efforts so publicly recognised.”
